County Executive Ron Cyrus is a native of Overton County and was educated in the Overton County School System. He received his Bachelor’s Degree at Wayne State University and later taught three years as Assistant Professor of Military Science at Eastern Michigan University. He entered the U.S. Army in 1968 as a private and was a combat veteran of both Vietnam and Desert Storm. He is a graduate of the Officer Candidate School where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant of Infantry. After promotion to Captain, he returned to active duty during the military build-up under the Captains to Europe Program. Appointed to Governor's Council for Armed Forces, Veterans, and their Families as a Representative of County Mayors/Executives, August 1, 2012.
Ron is a graduate of Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS and the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare and Schools at Ft. Bragg, N.C. His major assignments included: United States Armed Forces Command (FORSCOM), War Plans XVIII Airborne Corps, Ft. Bragg, NC and Training and Doctrine Command, Ft. Monroe, VA.
Ron is married to Brenda Huntsinger of Eastover, N.C. and they now make their home in Monroe, TN. He enjoys his family and grandchildren. He also enjoys metal detecting and visiting Civil War Colonial sites.
The county executive serves as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Executive Officer of the county.

The Overton County Department of Finance was created under the Financial Management Act of 1957. The Department of Finance is charged with administering the finances of all funds of the various departments, agencies, and boards which are handled by the county trustee. The Department of Finance is responsible for purchasing, accounting, budgeting, payroll, cash management, and all other such financial matters of the county.
Under the direction of Connie Hadynski, Budget Director, the Department is responsible for the development and administration of the Overton County budget and the county payroll.
